From far and wide, four generations of the Randolph family gather to celebrate Charles and Dora's golden wedding anniversary. There follows drama and comedy combined - the tears and laughter of many a family reunion. Set in the 1930s, Dodie Smith's romantic comedy includes the famous description of a family - "...that dear octopus from whose tentacles we never quite escape."
Tempers flare in the annexe of the church hall when a number of overbookings occur and all manner of different societies arrive at the same time. Despite the confusion everyone manages to unite in the production of the vicar's wife's pantomime.
