Another Successful Christmas Members' Evening with a series of sketches, songs and poems performed by our talented members and organised by Hermin Daley. This was accompanied by our traditional Christmas pies and rounded off with some seasonal carols led by Mike and Barbara Nicholson.
On 23rd September, we had our first visit to the Pulborough Harvest Fair. It may have been grey clouds on arrival but they were soon dispersed and the sun was shining on the WCDS stand. We had a Wizard of Oz theme and a magnificent team of helpers. Our thanks to Storrington Dramatic Society for the loan of munchkin costumes.
About 100 people enjoyed a very pleasant evening. The highlight of this sell out event was the World Premiere of a new play by Edwin Preece. Hanging on by a Thread, directed by Wendy Davies, featured a small group of artists taking part in a “Pop Up” exhibition displaying their work amongst which were a “hidden gem” and a painting of one of their husbands without a stitch.
At the West Chiltington Village Show we gained four new members and raised £130 from our raffle for Village Show causes. Our helpers put on a great performance in an array of colourful costumes. Well done to the Membership and Activities Group (MAG) for organising both this and the Pulborough Harvest Fair stand.
At our February Members Evening on 18th February, the World Premiere of the play, “Once Bittern” written and directed by Jean Trew, was enjoyed by a full house of members and guests. This comedy, based on interaction between members of a bird watching group, won the Chairman’s Challenge in 2015 and was Jean’s first directing role in West Chiltington. The evening also included the presentation by Julia Yule of a cheque for £500 from WCDS to the Macular Society. We aim to make a charitable donation every year as a result of our income from productions.
