Our 70th Anniversary Celebration
Our Members Evening on 21 September certainly went with a swing: we were splendidly entertained with a performance of Dinner for One wonderfully acted by Julian Hoad as the long-suffering and deeply quaffing butler James and by Angela Sloan as Miss Sophie, that strict maintainer of tradition. Janet Methley directed and introduced the play, as well as taking our audience through the history of some of the ups and downs of the society during its 70 years.
The play was followed by a great party, with good food for all, and plenty of it. Centrepieces were the two huge party cakes decorated with the WCDS logo to celebrate our anniversary. The Chairman's Challenge Cup was presented to Ralph Wigg, whose entry Jimmy was chosen as the winner from the four excellent plays submitted by members
A rehearsed play reading of Cuckoo in the Nest had also been planned, but time did not permit. We shall present this at a future date.
The evening was great success. We'd like to thank all our members who are always so supportive, and thanks especially to all those who helped out during the evening.
Our stand at the West Chiltington Village Show was very successful featuring a 'trip through time’ with Doctor Who in attendance. The show was celebrating its 100th year and our members dressed accordingly with all the decades represented.
